More on How to Support a Friend with Cancer

I admit it …I committed a cancer faux pas yesterday; it’s hard to know how to support a friend with cancer. I saw on Facebook that a friend had just received a cancer diagnosis. I quickly shot off an email to let them know how sad I was to hear the news. I was eager for details… where are you doing your treatment, who is your doctor, how long will your chemo regime be? I did it without thinking. It’s easy to do. As soon as I hit the send button I was kicking myself. Cancer comes with so much stress and when you physically don’t have the energy to respond to well-meaning emails and voicemails they just create more. Don’t get me wrong those emails and calls are life lines when you feel alone in a giant ocean. It’s hard to know how to support a friend with cancer, but one thing you can do is simply let your friend know there is “no need to write me back”. It takes the stress out of an inbox full of obligations.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
